Spectra Aerospace & Defense will highlight its electronic warfare capabilities at the upcoming Association of Old Crows (AOC) event in Rome May 6-8. AOC’s theme this year is Electromagnetic Operations (EMO), which aligns with Galleon Embedded Computing’s advanced data capture and processing solutions. CALCULEX and ArgonFDS — also part of Spectra — offer additional solutions in computing, recording and display technologies.

AOC represents a specialized community of professionals dedicated to electronic warfare (EW), electromagnetic spectrum operations, cyber-electromagnetic activities and related capabilities. Founded over 60 years ago, the organization has developed into an exclusive network of defense industry experts, military personnel and technical specialists who collaborate on advancing electromagnetic spectrum technologies and strategies.

Galleon, with its established presence in the EW community, stands out as Spectra’s flagship offering for this specialized market. The company’s high-performance computing platforms, secure data storage solutions and certified encryption capabilities address the unique challenges faced by electronic warfare operators who need to capture, process and protect massive amounts of mission-critical signal data.

“We offer removable storage drives that capture massive amounts of data — up to 80 Terabytes per mission,” says Alessandro Ruscitto, Spectra’s Director of International Sales. “And we also offer dual-layer certified encryption (U.S. and international), a critical differentiator in a growing and complex section of the defense industry.”

Galleon’s High-Performance Recorder (HPR) and XSR servers and mission computers are well suited for EW applications, offering a full spectrum of EW needs from signal capture to countermeasure development.

“They can capture data through a variety of signal types and then provide high-performance processor units — with an option for GPU processors to pre-process this captured data,” Ruscitto says. “This can then be stored directly to a high-capacity removeable disk with encryption capability.”

Customized solutions

Ruscitto says he expects the Spectra team at AOC in Rome to meet with customers articulating highly specific technical requirements for command & control environments.

“These are people very familiar with this space and what’s available, so they’re looking for what’s new,” he says. “With Spectra including solutions from Galleon, ArgonFDS and CALCULEX, we are in a great position to create an entire subsystem for a variety of applications.”

That includes everything from embedded computers and removable storage devices to ruggedized displays and rugged data recorders. As specialists in creating hardware that packs a lot of power into smaller spaces, Spectra engineers are always focused on Size, Weight and Power (SWaP) considerations. Another big factor, thermal management, is an area in which Spectra also has a great deal of experience Ruscitto says.

“We’re eager to meet with people at AOC to describe what we can do and answer questions,” he says. “I think they’ll be impressed with our capabilities.”

Ruscitto, who is based in Rome, will be at the event along with Mark Fitzgerald from Galleon’s London office. Spectra Aerospace and Defense will be at Booth F29 in the Roma Convention Center.
