From sea to space: Spectra Aerospace & Defense’s rugged computing and displays solutions at Embedded World

Galleon Embedded Computing and ArgonFDS will be on hand at this year’s event in Germany

This year’s Embedded World event taking place March 11-13 in Nuremberg, Germany will feature mission-critical computing and display solutions from Spectra Aerospace & Defense business units. Representatives for Galleon Embedded Computing will be on hand to share information about installations of military-grade computing solutions on everything from unmanned underwater vehicles to the International Space Station. And experts in displays and peripherals from ArgonFDS will speak to how its engineers create ruggedized equipment that fits larger screens into smaller spaces.

Embedded World is an international exhibition and conference showcasing the complete spectrum of embedded technology, from electronic components and systems to production equipment. It attracts engineers and technical professionals seeking practical solutions to complex challenges.

While the exhibition focuses largely on automotive electronics and industrial applications, Galleon Customer Solutions Manager Hajo Pfeifer said the defense-focused solutions from Galleon tend to attract a lot of visitors to the booth.

“We’re one of the few exhibitors serving a very specific market outside the main technology branches,” Pfeifer said. “Visitors are often intrigued to discover defense-oriented solutions amid the general electronics landscape, so for us it’s more of a technical show than it is a sales event.”

This will be Pfeifer’s third year at Embedded World, representing Galleon Embedded Computing.

“We’ve had some great conversations with engineers curious about the full scope of our product range,” he said. “From below the sea to the surface, on land and up into space, our systems demonstrate exceptional ruggedness across diverse environments.”

While most of Galleon’s products are for the defense industry, Pfeifer noted that there are plenty of potential applications in other industries for embedded computing products designed to fit in small spaces with low Size, Weight and Power (SWaP) attributes.

“There are a great many engineers and technology innovators at Embedded World who are looking for solutions to problems,” he said. “Galleon offers the most dense data storage solution for rugged environments, including advanced data recorders for aerospace and defense applications. We have had a lot of fascinating conversations at previous shows, so I’d recommend stopping by our booth #3-645 if you’re attending.”

ArgonFDS

As a manufacturer of battle-tested rugged displays and peripherals, ArgonFDS maintains a significant global presence supporting a number of programs with custom and commercial-off-the shelf solutions. ArgonFDS Product Manager Jason Shoaf said the company’s focus on reduced SWaP improves the ability to customize products to meet exact customer requirements.

“We are an established company of 35 years with installs on multiple defense platforms,” Shoaf said. “We combine deep technical expertise with proven design capabilities to meet all requirements, development timelines and qualification testing standards.”

There are many potential applications for ruggedized displays and peripherals outside the defense industry, and Shoaf said the ArgonFDS team is looking forward to having similar technical conversations alongside the Galleon representatives.

“We’ll have one of our rugged 27-inch flat-panel displays at the booth,” he said. “Seeing it really helps illustrate how much screen we’re able to fit into a smaller form factor, creating mission-ready displays that are incredibly resilient for all kinds of tough environments.”
